A Poland work permit is an authorization your Polish employer obtains before you can apply for a visa to enter the country. Since 1 December 2025 it costs PLN 400 for jobs longer than three months, four times the previous fee, and since 1 June 2025 employers must file it electronically. Once the permit is issued, you apply for a national type D visa in the UAE.
Three rules changed in the last year, and most guides still describe the old system. Here is the current picture.
What Exactly Is a Poland Work Permit?
A work permit is a decision from a Polish voivodeship office allowing one specific employer to hire one specific foreign worker for one specific job. Change the employer, and the permit no longer covers you.
It is not a visa. It does not let you enter Poland on its own. The permit is the document that makes your visa application possible, which is why the order matters so much.
Most UAE-based factory and general-labor workers apply under a type A work permit, the category for someone employed directly by a Polish company. Seasonal work, delegated postings and business owners follow separate tracks with different rules and different fees.
What Does a Poland Work Permit Cost in 2026?
The government fee schedule changed on 1 December 2025, and the increase was steep. According to the European Commission’s Migration and Home Affairs portal, fees rose roughly fourfold:
• Work permit up to 3 months: PLN 200 (previously PLN 50)
• Work permit longer than 3 months: PLN 400 (previously PLN 100)
• Delegated worker permit: PLN 800 (previously PLN 100)
• Seasonal work permit: PLN 100, unchanged
For a standard factory or warehouse contract, the figure that applies to you is PLN 400. One detail matters more than the amount: these fees are non-refundable if the permit is not issued. You pay to have the application decided, not to have it approved.
Note that a separate, later procedure exists. If you convert to a temporary residence and work permit once you are living in Poland, that carries a PLN 440 stamp duty plus PLN 100 for the residence card. That is a second-stage cost, not part of your initial permit. We break the full picture down in the real cost of a Poland work permit.
Who Actually Pays the Permit Fee?
The employer files the application and the fee sits on the employer’s side of the process. In practice, arrangements vary between employers and consultancies, and the cost is often built into what an applicant pays overall.
That is normal. What is not normal is being unable to see the split. Any consultancy should be able to show you, in writing, which part of your total is the PLN 400 government fee and which part is their service fee. A firm that will not separate those numbers is telling you something.
How Long Does the Process Take Now?
Polish law sets a 60-day deadline for deciding a complete application, per the European Commission’s Migration and Home Affairs portal. That deadline is currently suspended.
Under an Act passed 12 September 2025, Poland lifted processing deadlines for most residence and work permit decisions until 4 March 2026, after a sharp rise in applications from Ukrainian nationals. Offices still accept and decide cases. They are simply no longer bound to the clock, and no longer required to report their delays.
The practical effect is that nobody can honestly promise you a date right now. Build your plan around a complete file and a generous buffer instead of a number an agent quotes. The processing time breakdown covers what actually moves your file faster.
Is Poland Still Hiring Foreign Workers?
The honest answer is yes, but with a caveat worth understanding before you commit money.
Poland issued 251,525 work permits to non-EU nationals in 2025, 29% more than in 2024 and more than double the 2019 level, according to Poland’s Ministry of Family and Social Policy. Indian nationals received 29,524 of those and Nepali nationals 18,805.
The same data carries a second signal. Permits issued fell by 22% over the course of 2025 following mid-year policy tightening, ending at the lowest monthly levels in seven years. So the annual total was a record, while the trend through the year turned sharply downward. Demand is real; it is also tightening. Treat anyone who shows you only the first half of that picture with caution.
How Is the Application Filed?
Electronically, and only electronically. Since 1 June 2025, work permit applications and their attachments must be submitted through the praca.gov.pl portal. Paper filing is no longer accepted.
This matters for you even though the employer does the filing, because it changes what your documents need to look like. Scans must be legible, complete and consistent with each other, since a caseworker is reviewing them on screen with no chance to ask you for a clarification in person.
A blurred passport scan or a contract missing its salary line now costs you weeks. The document checklist covers what to prepare and how.
What Are the Steps, From the UAE to Working in Poland?
1. Secure a genuine job offer from a Polish employer, directly or through a licensed consultancy with verified employer relationships.
2. The employer files your work permit electronically via praca.gov.pl at the relevant voivodeship office, and pays the PLN 400 fee.
3. You apply for a national type D visa at the Polish consulate covering the UAE, using the issued permit. Confirm the current consular fee directly with the consulate, since it is set separately from the permit fee.
4. You travel to Poland on that visa and begin work with the employer named on your permit.
5. You register your address and apply for a residence card if your stay extends beyond the visa, a procedure Poland is moving fully online during 2026.
Each of these steps has a failure point. The most common ones are covered in why Poland work permits get rejected.
What Salary Should the Offer Show?
Poland’s minimum wage for 2026 is PLN 4,806 per month, effective 1 January 2026, under a regulation of the Council of Ministers dated 11 September 2025 (Journal of Laws, item 1242). There is no mid-year adjustment planned for 2026, so this figure holds all year.
Your contract cannot legally fall below it. For context, average manufacturing pay across Poland was PLN 8,982 per month in July 2026, according to Statistics Poland (GUS), though that is a national average across all experience levels rather than an entry-level figure.
Check your offer against PLN 4,806 before anything else. An offer below it fails the legal minimum and puts the whole application at risk. See what factory workers actually earn for realistic ranges.
Why Do UAE Workers Choose Poland Specifically?
Poland has been a full Schengen member since 2007. Once you hold an active Polish residence permit, you gain visa-free short-stay travel across the Schengen area, something no Gulf-issued residence visa provides.
That is travel access, not work rights. Your Polish permit does not authorize employment in Germany or France. The distinction is explained properly in what Schengen access actually gives you.
Still, it reframes the decision. A Poland offer is not simply competing against a better-paid Gulf contract. It is competing against every other route into Europe, and most of those are slower, costlier or closed to labor-class applicants.
What Should You Do Next?
Check your job offer clears PLN 4,806 a month. Ask your consultancy to show the PLN 400 government fee separately from their service fee, in writing. Confirm the employer is named and real before any money moves. Then prepare a complete document file, because with deadlines suspended, completeness is the only part of the timeline you control.
